Through this “On the beach” collection, Mr Barbero aims to shed new light on the work of the renowned Spanish artist, highlighting connections with the Mediterranean that played an important role in his artistic career. From Picasso’s roots in Spain to his life in France and his relationships with artists and art forms, Picasso used the Mediterranean as an important point of reference in his life.
Every Picture Tells a Story
“An exhibition where we see clearly how Picasso, through his paintings and designs, shapes the female figures almost as sculptures on the canvas” are words the curator used to describe the Venice exhibition. All the exhibited works are related to the theme of the beach and bathers, hence the name “On the beach” for the exhibit.
Like most of his themes, the concept of nudity is dealt with in both traditional and a more modern way. Artists Giorgione, Tiziano, Ingres, Puvis de Chavannes, Manet, Cezanne, Matisse and Renoir all took inspiration from Picasso for his figurative and compositional structures. In Picasso’s work, nudity is a recurring theme and of primary importance to all artists interested in figurative painting.
The Venice exhibit offers an inspirational way to experience European art and the role the Mediterranean has played in influencing the art industry. To completely experience the captivating allure of the Mediterranean, a luxury cruise is an ideal way to explore this stunning part of the world.
